IHPSA Executive Council 2026-2027 | Election Candidates
President
-
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 4
Candidate Information:
Hello IHP Students! My name is Holly Typliski, and I am running to be your president in the 2026-2027 school year. As I enter the final year of my degree, the greatest stand-out is my participation in IHPSA. Through learning about research or potential master’s programs, interacting with the IHP staff and faculty, or forming relationships with my fellow students, IHPSA has provided me with invaluable resources and connections that I will take into my future endeavors. All this to say that IHPSA has given me so much, and now it is my turn to give back to the IHP students by being your president.
IHPSA thrives due to the tight-knit community within our program, and I aim to make IHPSA a space where all IHP students feel welcome and belonging. As an Indigenous student, I have a personal interest in ensuring all Indigenous IHP students are informed about the resources available, especially the Ongomiizwin Institute of Health and Healing. IHPSA has been breaking participation records in the past two years, and I hope to continue those trends next year. I plan to acheive this goal by leading an organized executive team and providing support to all IHP students.Throughout my time on IHPSA, I have been a general council member, Indigenous student representative, Director of Social Events (twice) and Vice President. Needless to say, I know how IHPSA operates and how it can succeed. As the Vice President, I was exposed to all presidential duties and got to collaborate, such as in the development of the IHPSA scholarship program. I will have a natural transition, since I am familiar with the presidential role before the term begins.
Outside of IHPSA, I’m passionate about leadership and have developed my skills through the Indigenous Circle of Empowerment leadership program in the last two school years. The most important leadership quality I have learned is that a true leader is not the person who gets all the recognition but is the person that stands in the background while their team succeeds. This is my personal philosophy that I will use to guide and lead my fellow executives and IHP students. I take pride in my community of Selkirk, Manitoba and serve as a director on a local tourism board and a member of a committee dedicated to providing scholarships for Indigenous students entering post-secondary education.
Vice President

Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 3
Candidate Information:
Hello! My name is Cadence, and I’m so excited to run for next year’s IHPSA Vice President!
In third grade, I once discovered a sticky note on my locker with the words, “We rise by lifting others.” Although it may sound trite, I realize now that this quote has profoundly impacted who I am and how I want to lead. Our program is incredibly diverse – with students seeking careers in public health, social work, law, research, medicine, pharmacy, and more – and I am committed to ensuring that you feel comfortable approaching me about anything; listening carefully to your every perspective and concern; advocating for solutions to these concerns through the proper channels and administrations; and always being ready to share what I know or take on additional tasks to support fellow students. Throughout the past three years, I have gained lifelong friends and many wonderful memories from IHPSA, and I want to give back to the program that has given me so much. My time on IHPSA has given me a deep understanding of the inner mechanisms of our association, as well as what is required to coordinate the executive council effectively and put the students of this program first. As Fundraising & Stewardship Director for the Winnipeg Run for the Cure – a cause very close to my heart – I organize multiple events annually for the Canadian Cancer Society, and coordinate the supporters and storytellers who bring the Run to life. Prior to university, I spent two years organizing a walk for youth with cancer, served on student council, helped lead my school’s Green Team, and was selected as a delegate at the Round Square International Conference with hundreds of students from over 50 countries. I have also met many incredible individuals in our program this year while serving as Co-Director of Social Events!
Outside of university, I have devoted nearly a year to working in home care, almost three years at a pharmacy, and previously, four years as a dental receptionist. Balancing these roles alongside school (and the occasional, unfortunate night shift) has made me much more resilient and patient. I have always striven to be someone that others view as kind, empathetic, and dependable, and I give my unconditional commitment to everything I do, including IHPSA. I love our program, and I promise to support, represent, and “lift” up my fellow students to the best of my ability! :) -
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 3
Candidate Information:
Hi everyone! My name is Quynh and I would be honoured to serve as your Vice President! Since my first year in the IHP program, I’ve been actively involved as a general IHPSA member, your Women’s Community Representative, an IHP Student Representative on the RFHS Council, and have had the privilege of serving as your current Health Sciences Liaison. These roles have allowed me to connect with many IHP students and faculty while gaining insight into diverse perspectives. Experiencing all the different levels of leadership IHPSA offers has inspired me to stay involved as much as I can. It makes me feel so fulfilled to see the impact of IHPSA initiatives I’ve been a part of, from helping develop the Health Sciences Expansion Petition to seeing how much fun students had at our Ronald McDonald House volunteering. My time in the program has been incredibly positive, largely thanks to all the upper years who have helped shape IHPSA into such a welcoming and tight-knit community. I want to give back by offering that same guidance – being someone students feel safe sharing their concerns with, supporting our executive council to the best of my abilities, and continuing to drive meaningful change.
My extensive involvement in student clubs have prepared me for what the role of Vice President entails. As your Health Sciences Liaison, I presented at multiple IHP Open Houses, advocated for IHPSA scholarships, and used my voice to represent Health Sciences students at many committee meetings. As the past Academic Programming Director for the UofM Undergraduate Leaders in Healthcare (UM-ULH), I worked to plan events such as fundraisers, panels for students to connect with professionals, and a workshop to spread awareness about challenges faced by individuals living with dementia. As the current Vice President for UM-ULH, I helped oversee the first ever Bannatyne Labtrek, over five panels, and two socials while managing our 16-person executive team. I have learnt the level of detail that goes into executing successful events, what it means to trust your team, and how to effectively delegate tasks. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, collaboration, and advocacy skills, all of which I hope to continue building in this role. Serving as your Vice President would be an amazing opportunity to ensure all IHP students have a positive experience throughout their academic journey. I would truly appreciate your support so I can best support you :)
Director of Operations
-
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 3
Candidate Information:
I am interested to be your next Director of Operations to continue my work in building a strong, caring, and compassionate IHP community. I want to be known not only as the “executive who has the attendance sheet”, but also as an approachable peer that is always ready to chat and advocate for you. I hope that through this position I can build a stronger IHP spirit! I intend to make the lounge more accessible to IHP students to create a space in which our community can connect and thrive. For example, I will look into increasing the number of seats and tables in the lounge to make sure people have a greater chance of being able to enjoy the space. Furthermore, I will enforce more cleanliness and organization including posted signage that encourages students to clean up after themselves and keep the space tidy. Also, I want to collaborate with the custodial staff to guarantee stocked soap dispensers, available paper towels, and clean trash bins. Lastly, I want to implement consistent office hours, to ensure that our students can access resources within the IHP office as well as be able to interact with the IHPSA executives.
This year I had the honour of serving as your Co-Director of Social Events and it has taught me a great deal about the hardworking IHP students. As your Co-Director of Social Events I was able to meaningfully interact with many students, plan and facilitate several successful social events, and cultivate a stronger IHP community. Through this experience, I have improved my ability to coordinate meetings, write structured agendas, and manage logistics that contribute to productive collaboration between executives, general council members, and the student body. Additionally, my involvement in many extra-curriculars has honed my ability to be time-efficient, detailed, and organized. Over this past year, I served on both the IHPSA and UM-ULH executive councils; continued my dedication to helping patients as a hospital volunteer; and mentored and taught students as a university student tutor with the Academic Learning Centre. If elected into this position, I will continue working on my character by further advancing my organization skills, developing clearer communication, and increasing my compassion and empathy. I hope you will consider me to be your next Director of Operations, and I truly appreciate your continued support!
Director of Finance
-
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 2
Candidate Information:
Over the past two years as a Health Sciences student, I have always appreciated the work the Executive Council has done to support all students in the faculty, including me. The events, initiatives, and many different opportunities have created a strong community for all Health Sciences/Studies students, and I have valued being part of that environment. Therefore, I want to now contribute to such a wonderful community as well and give back to the students and friends who make this faculty. For me, Director of Finance is not just the best fit to showcase my abilities, but it is also where I would be able to grow my skills and nurture my interest in handling finances on a larger scale.
As someone who values being organized, responsible, and has consistently kept detailed records of her own finances and commitments, I would be well-suited for this role, which requires managing financial records, handling and funding requests, and providing transparency throughout the process. I understand the importance of these requirements, and plan to follow them as best as I can. By serving in this role, I hope to support the Executive Council in continuing to create opportunities that benefit all students.Through my job as a swim instructor/lifeguard, I've developed a strong sense of responsibility, organization, and communication skills. Teaching children requires patience, planning ahead, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while also maintaining a safe environment, skills that I think are well-suited for someone who is going to be in charge of taking different aspects into consideration when it comes to budgeting for events and taking care of the financial records.
My volunteering in the psychiatric unit at Health Sciences Centre has also been a great opportunity for me to learn how to work in a professional environment and interact with a diverse group of people dealing with different challenges. It has also strengthened my appreciation for being a team player and has taught me how to communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully, which is crucial to the transparency aspect of managing finances.
Though I am familiar with managing my own finances and banking, I recognize that managing the finances of a student organization is different. In this role, I hope to learn more about creating budgets, managing funds, and supporting the Executive Council in planning initiatives that benefit everyone. -

With my previous experience as a Student Council Treasurer, I am eager to continue developing my skills and contribute to smooth, well-organized operations while making a meaningful impact on our community.I developed extensive leadership, organizational, and financial management skills through a variety of roles over the years.
Through my seven years in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets program, where I graduated as a Warrant Officer 1st Class, I gained experience in leadership, accountability, and working within structured systems. I also served as the Staff Cadets’ Treasurer at Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre, where I managed funds for staff cadets in a similar role to the responsibilities of the Director of Finance.

Director of Marketing

Program: Bachelor of Health Studies
Current Year: 1
Candidate Information:
I am interested in running for Director of Marketing for IHPSA because I believe it is a vital role that would allow me to contribute to this amazing community. Being in my first year of university, I relied heavily on the IHP marketing posts to stay up to date on IHPSA news and events. It was often because of social media posts that I was inspired to attend activities which allowed me to feel connected to other IHP students and the UM community. I would love to have the opportunity to provide these connections to both new and returning students next year.
I believe I am a qualified candidate for Director of Marketing. I served as a general council member and the Indigenous community representative/Ongomiizwin liaison in my first year in IHPSA. Hello! I am interested in running for Director of Marketing because I would love to continue serving our community and contributing to IHPSA’s growth in a way that aligns with my creative experience. In being apart of our Executive Council this past year and witnessing how IHP initiatives are planned and promoted to students, I have felt greatly inspired to play a bigger part in uniting our community. I feel that marketing plays an incredibly important role in uniting IHP students, through the promotion of social events, sharing of resources, celebration of IHP’s achievements, and more. With everyone’s busy schedules, students rely on digital platforms more than ever to stay informed, thus maintaining a strong, engaging online presence is essential to maintaining an interconnected community. I also think that marketing has the power to foster a welcoming environment for students and can be a source of encouragement to get more involved in our program or other organizations across campus. If elected to this role, I would want to continue building on successful initiatives established by our current Director of Marketing, while also introducing new and creative ideas to keep students engaged!
This past year, serving as IHPSA’s Director of UMSU Relations provided me with relevant experience in representing IHPSA and engaging with the broader student community. Being on our Executive Council allowed me to interact with other executives on a regular basis and become familiar with IHPSA’s overarching goals, which is important when representing our organization across a variety of platforms. In addition, being a General Council member and consistently having attended IHPSA events would allow me to authentically promote these experiences to future students. I have always been very passionate about art and creative expression and am proficient in using a variety of digital art platforms, which I believe would assist me in developing new and innovative ways to engage with IHP students. In my experience coordinating a variety of group art projects, including large scale posters and murals involving 20+ students, I have learned how to effectively communicate with a team and incorporate multiple creative inputs into a cohesive outcome, which would be beneficial when working alongside the future marketing committee. If elected, I would hope to further these leadership skills as well as my collaborative abilities, since I believe working as a team is essential to IHP’s success!

Co-Directors of Social Events (2 positions)
-
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 1
Candidate Information:
This year, I had the opportunity to better connect with so many wonderful people in my faculty through the events organized and hosted by the social events committee. This year, I had the opportunity to grow closer to people through events like pumpkin carving, volleyball, lab treks, cookie baking, and social evenings, and I am so grateful for these opportunities. While the activities were fun, it was really the people and the community I found myself belonging to that made this year so special. Fourth years who were full of wisdom and leadership for navigating this program, second and third years who were kind and welcoming, and other first years with whom I could laugh, share struggles , and relate. Despite the stress of school , I was able to unwind and connect through these events, which made me a better student and person. I think the community we have in IHP is so special because of its tight-knit qualities, and I would love to continue this year's momentum of fun events that bring us all closer together next year.
This year, I had the opportunity to be part of the social events committee under the guidance of Cadence and John. They were so encouraging to all us volunteers, and I could see the way they worked together to make everything run smoothly. I would say my previous experiences in student government, group ensemble work in theatre, and working as a camp counselor have really taught me how to work effectively as a teammate, as well as a leader, which are two qualities the role of Co-Director of Social Events really requires. This year, I served as the accessibility student representative, where I was given the opportunity to plan an event . I decided on a walk for Type One Diabetes, paired with an awareness campaign, and I can't wait for that to happen in the beginning of April. I believe my skills in creativity and open-mindedness will allow me to think outside the box while collaborating well with my fellow Co-Director and other executive council members. I will certainly bring positive leadership and a supportive attitude to this role as Co-Director of Social Events and am excited about the opportunity to get more involved in IHP!!

Through getting involved with IHPSA throughout the years, our community of Health Sciences and Health Studies students has always been what made this program worthwhile. Our current council has done incredible work in creating events and a plethora of opportunities that has shaped us into the program we are today. As one of your Co-Directors of Social Events, I hope to continue this positive impact by initiating events that all have one main prospect; bringing the community together. Through a combination of both fun and academic events, I hope to give the opportunity for all IHP students to not only take part in events beneficial for our future careers, but also as an outlet to showcase who we are outside of an academic lens. Whether it be a panel to showcase the potential career aspects of our degrees, a fun Karaoke/talent night, or a lively party during the holiday season, my goal is to implement events that are beneficial for everyone. I hope to continue the incredible events that we’ve had this year, as well as showcasing new ones that bring a new and exciting platform for everyone to enjoy :3
I am a dedicated and passionate person for any role I take on and always strive to make a positive influence. This year, I had the privilege of being one of your RFHS student representatives, where I was able to advocate for our program and learn more about the RFHS through council meetings. Additionally, as the Academic Programming Director for UM-ULH, I’ve gained experience in event planning such as panels to connect students with professional leaders in healthcare, workshops like the Living with Dementia workshop that advocated and spread awareness for those affected by Dementia, and fun Snack and Study nights to bring the community together. I also was an SI leader for CHEM 1100 this year, where I interacted with many incredible first-year students and assisted in their education and journey through their time in first-year chemistry. Through these roles, I've deeply gained a sense of dedication and leadership to foster safe spaces where everyone is welcomed, valued, and advocated for. This role for me is not only about showcasing the initiatives that I want to see in our program, but also being a voice to implement events, opportunities, and engagement that all of our faculty members would enjoy.

I am running for Co-Director of Social Events because as someone who attended a majority of IHP events this year, I found value in all of these events and I want to contribute to creating and hosting more inclusive and engaging events that reflect what students truly want. Building on widely loved traditions, I want to introduce more collaboration with UofM clubs and associations to expand opportunities and mingle with other communities.
I also hope to diversify events through initiatives like volunteering, community tours, and hands-on workshops like suturing, where students can explore their interests and the broader community. In addition, I am committed to strengthening the sense of community within IHP by creating opportunities for students across all years to connect, through mixers, peer-mentorship events, and small group activities like study socials or game nights.
Most importantly, I will prioritize student input by gathering feedback at the start of each term and using tools like Instagram polls to guide monthly event planning. I want our events to genuinely reflect student interests and needs.
Overall, I am dedicated to building a connected, responsive, and welcoming student community in IHP and I would be proud to represent you.I bring strong experience in event planning, promotion, and cross-campus collaboration. I also collaborated externally, working with the City of Winnipeg on a tree-planting project and coordinating a walk supporting youth with cancer alongside St. John’s-Ravenscourt. These experiences strengthened my leadership, creativity, and collaboration, allowing me to contribute effectively to this role!
Director of Senate Relations
-
Program: Bachelor of Health Sciences
Current Year: 1
Candidate Information:
I am running for Director of Senate Relations because I believe I can effectively represent the interests of IHP students at the Senate level. Despite our program being one of the smallest and newest at UofM, IHP students deserve a persuasive voice in the decisions that directly shape their academic experience. The Senate plays a central role in determining policies pertaining to academic programs, exams, achievement of degrees, and more, and I hope to bridge the gap between the decisions of the Senate and the priorities of IHP students.
As a first-year health sciences student, I believe I bring a fresh perspective on both the opportunities and challenges students encounter within the IHP program. I plan to advocate for your academic concerns and ensure that Senate decisions support accessible, collaborative, and innovative learning opportunities for students pursuing careers in health and related fields.
Ultimately, I am motivated by the opportunity to create a more transparent academic environment, where students are actively informed about decisions that affect them. Should I be elected as the Director of Senate Relations, I intend to be the microphone for your voices and ensure your perspectives are heard.Throughout high school, I was an active member of many student leadership groups, preparing me well for this position. As Co-Captain of the Debate Team, I developed strong public speaking skills, consistently ranked among the top debaters in the province, and represented Manitoba at the national level several times, making me confident in my ability to defend your ideas.
I served as Co-Head of the Asian Heritage Month Committee and the Muslim Students’ Association, where I represented diverse student voices and created spaces for meaningful dialogue within the school. On the Peer Support Team, I advocated for student wellness and mental health supports within academic environments, and in STEM Club, I fought for initiatives that supported young women in academia.
Additionally, I gained collaborative leadership experience through work with a local nonprofit supporting students interested in healthcare careers, where I have served as Professional Relations Director, Co-President, and now Principal Advisor. Working with Manitobans of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences within these roles has shown me how to represent collective interests effectively, which will prove beneficial as I propose your ideas to other members of the UofM senate.
