IHPSA Executive Council Roles & Responsibilities

2026-2027 Executive Council

Please be aware of the following election regulations:

  • Slates are not permitted, and candidates who do not follow this regulation shall be disqualified.

  • The applications will open at 12:00am on March 9th, and will close at 11:59pm on March 16th

  • There will be a mandatory virtual All-Candidates meeting on Tuesday, March 17th from 7:30pm-8:15pm. If you are unable to make it, please email the CRO to send a proxy.

  • There will be a virtual Election Forum on Wednesday, March 18th from 12:00pm-1:00pm. It is highly recommended that you attend

  • The campaigning period is from Wednesday, March 18th at 12:00am to Wednesday, March 25th at 11:59pm. Candidates campaigning outside of this period may be subject to disqualification.

  • Our current executive council will outline their roles & responsibilities our next general council meeting, but feel free to message our current executive council if you have any questions about their roles!

  • Note: Presidential candidates must have at least one year of experience on the General or Executive Council before seeking election.

    The President (Senior Stick) is the Chair of both the Executive and General Councils, serves as an ex officio member of all Committees, assists with preparing meeting agendas, and presents reports to keep members of the association informed. The President represents the Association in meetings with representatives of other groups, both internal and external (e.g. UMSU, Dean & Senior Sticks, etc). Other duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining a confidential record of all files and passwords, acting as the designated proxy for UMSU BOD meetings, ensuring eligible members receive Experience Record recognition, and being one of the signing authorities for the Association.

  • Note: Vice-Presidential candidates must have at least one year of experience on the General or Executive Council before seeking election.

    The Vice President (Vice Stick) is the Vice Chair of both the Executive and General Councils, serves as an ex officio member of all Committees, assists with preparing meeting agendas, and presents reports to keep members of the association informed. Other duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining a confidential record of all files and passwords, acting as an alternate proxy for UMSU BOD meetings, ensuring eligible members receive Experience Record recognition, and being one of the signing authorities for the Association. The Vice President stands in for the President on an acting basis when the President delegates or is unable to fulfill some or all of their duties (See: President)

  • The Director of Operations assists the President and/or Vice President in preparing of meeting agendas, records and publishes meeting minutes, takes attendance, reserves spaces for meetings and other events, ensures the Council Office is in good order and well-supplied, maintains safekeeping of Association records, and acts as Chief Returning Officer for elections (unless there is a conflict of interest).

  • The Director of Finance acts as one of the singing authorities of the Association, maintains all financial records, including a record of all accounts payable and receivable, administers funding requests and reimbursements, provides regular updates about the financial state of the Association, and maintains relations with external partners (e.g. UMSU VPFO, banking partner).

  • The Director of Marketing is the Chair of the Marketing Committee, manages the Association’s digital and on-campus presence, including social media accounts, the website, and posters/signage, and assists in developing strategies to expand outreach and grow the Association’s recognition.

  • The Co-Directors of Social Events are Co-Chairs of the Social Events Committee, are responsible for planning at least one event or initiative each month, seek opportunities to increase student engagement and involvement, facilitate collaboration with other groups, both internal and external, and work with other Executives to brainstorm ideas, outline costs, and to book venues.

  • The Director of UMSU Relations is responsible for attending meetings of the UMSU Board of Directors (or arranging a proxy when unable to do so), reporting on the proceedings and updates to the Executive and General Councils, and maintaining relations between the Association and UMSU. The Director of UMSU relations should have a sound comprehension of UMSU’s governing documents and Robert’s Rules of Order, and represent the interests of IHP students to the BOD.

  • The Director of Senate Relations is responsible for attending meetings of the Student Senate Caucus and the UM Senate, reporting on the proceedings and updates to the Executive and General Councils, and maintaining relations between the Association and the Senate. The Director of Senate relations should have a sound comprehension of the UM Senate’s governing documents and Robert’s Rules of Order and represent the interests of IHP students at meetings.

  • The Health Sciences Liaison is an ambassador and advocate for students in the Bachelor of Health Sciences, serving as a student representative on the IHP Council, RFHS Social Accountability Committee, RFHS Local Disciplinary Committee, and other committees, councils, or caucuses at the discretion and appointment of the President and/or Vice President. The Health Sciences Liaison represents the IHP by volunteering at open houses, doing tours for prospective students, and appearing at invitational events.

  • The Health Studies Liaison is an ambassador and advocate for students in the Bachelor of Health Studies, serving as a student representative on the IHP Council, RFHS Social Accountability Committee, RFHS Local Disciplinary Committee, and other committees, councils, or caucuses at the discretion and appointment of the President and/or Vice President. The Health Studies Liaison represents the IHP by volunteering at open houses, doing tours for prospective students, and appearing at invitational events.
