RFHS Faculty Council IHP Representatives
-
Year: 2
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
After completing my first year in health sciences, I had the privilege of becoming involved with the RFHS council as an IHP student representative. This experience was one of the highlights of my year, as it allowed me to engage more deeply with the health sciences faculty. I discovered that it was a very close-knit and supportive community. I was appalled by how students and council members came together to create a welcoming environment.
The meetings and gatherings provided meaningful spaces for students to interact, share ideas, and strengthen bonds. Because of these experiences, I have been inspired to apply as a student representative. I am willing to represent the voices of students and help strengthen connections between the RFHS council and other clubs and associations.
Additionally, I found it rewarding to represent IHPSA by encouraging friends to participate in various events. Seeing students come together for study nights, community events, etc., was very inspiring and further contributed to my commitment to being involved. I am willing to continue enthusiasm and inclusivity in the program and promote new opportunities that will help enrich the experiences of health sciences students. As a student, I value determination, inclusivity, teamwork, and leadership. In high school, I served as the Social Media Marketing and Outreach Director for Project Pulse, a non-profit organization that introduces students to the health sciences through conferences, videos, and articles. This role taught me the importance of outreach, communication, and inspiring others to explore new opportunities.
Currently, I work as a teacher at Marquis Dance Academy and am a competitive dancer with Sikat Dance Company. These experiences have strengthened my leadership and teamwork skills while teaching me the importance of being a positive role model. I encourage others to share their passions, appreciate progress, and embrace self-expression.
In the summer of 2025, I gained research experience in the Ghia Lab through the Undergraduate Research Award in the immunology department. This opportunity enhanced my professional communication and organizational skills, and I would be excited to share this experience with other health sciences students who are interested in research.
These experiences have prepared me to contribute as a student representative on the RFHS Council. Becoming an IHP Student Representative would allow me to connect with like-minded peers, promote collaboration, and strengthen the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences community. -
Year: 4
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
My name is Andrew Beck and I am a fourth year student in the Health Sciences program. After being a part of this program for the last few years, I am interested in providing our faculty with feedback on what works well in our program with the perspective of a student who is nearing the end of their time as an undergrad. I’m also excited to share the views of my peers who have just recently started their journeys in Health Sciences as well!
I have been a general council member for the last three years as well as serving on our executive council in the 2024/2025 school year. I have also been a member of the UMSU board of directors for the same school year. Through these affiliations I have become familiar with Robert's Rules of Order. I have also learned more about the inner workings of both IHPSA and UMSU which allows me to have a multi-disciplinary perspective. Finally, I currently work in several hospitals in rural Manitoba giving me vital clinical experience. I believe this experience provides me with unique insights and can me bridge the gap between Rady’s academic programs and our future careers in healthcare.

Year: 2
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
I want to run for IHP Student Representative because I care about making sure Health Sciences students feel supported, connected, and heard. As an immigrant who had to adjust to a new culture and language, I know what it feels like to face challenges and rely on others for guidance. During my first year, I was fortunate to meet upper-year students who offered advice, encouragement, and reassurance. Their support helped me feel more comfortable and at peace, and showed me how much of a difference it makes to have someone looking out for you.
Now, in my second year, I want to be that person for others, whether it’s first-year students starting out or students in any year who need guidance or a listening ear. I want to make sure everyone knows they belong and that their voices matter.
I also believe in the importance of building stronger connections within our program and across RFHS. Whether it’s exchanging ideas, sharing resources, or speaking up on behalf of others, I see this role as a way to create a welcoming and engaged community where every student feels valued.
Over the past year, I’ve been involved in different areas of student life, and each has given me skills I can bring into this role. On the IHP Marketing Committee, I learned how to communicate and work with others to promote events and keep students engaged. Attending UMULH events showed me the value of community and the importance of students feeling connected. I’m also starting as an executive with Medicine for Youth, which has already given me opportunities to help other students find volunteering experiences and explore both clinical and non-clinical pathways.
Outside of university clubs, I’ve always enjoyed roles where supporting others is the focus. In high school, I worked as a math tutor, making myself available to answer questions and encourage students when they felt stuck. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, I make sure everyone feels safe, included, and heard. These experiences have taught me to be approachable and attentive, qualities I want to bring into this representative position.
Through this role, I hope to continue building my leadership and advocacy skills while ensuring Health Sciences students feel represented and supported. -
Year: 3
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
Since joining the IHP program this year, I have had the privilege of meeting so many passionate and driven students who have truly inspired me to become more engaged within my community. I am eager to take on the role of IHP Student Representative on the RFHS Council, as it would provide a valuable opportunity to represent the students I have met, who have made this program feel so welcoming and supportive. Another great aspect of this role is the chance to connect with professors and professionals within RFHS. I am excited about the opportunity to help build a stronger connection between students and faculty, while also advocating for the students who have already made such a positive impact on my academic experience this year.
I am involved as a teacher in the children's ministry at my church, where I work closely with children and other volunteers to create a nurturing environment for children to grow and thrive. This experience has strengthened my ability to advocate for others, collaborate in groups, and manage responsibilities with attention to detail. Additionally, this opportunity has helped me develop patience, empathy, and the ability to lead with kindness. I strongly believe these qualities are essential as a Student Representative for RFHS to create a positive and productive atmosphere. By encouraging compassion, collaboration, and open communication, I hope to ensure that everyone feels valued and that we work together to build a more inclusive community for both students and faculty.

Year: 2
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
I’m interested in running for an IHP student representative position because it’s a great way to get involved in the RFHS community and give back. During my first year in this program, I appreciated people in higher years making me feel welcome through the events they planned and the resources they provided. I want to do the same for first-year students and others who aren’t highly involved in the IHP program. I would also like to use this position to get to know other people in the health sciences program better. By being a student representative, I will reach out to fellow IHP members to hear their ideas and what they’d like to see. I am also interested in running for this position because it will be a great way to get to know how the RFHS works and how we can help improve the experience of being part of the RFHS! The Fort Garry Campus is secluded from the larger RFHS, and by running, I hope to bridge that gap and help us connect with other members in the RFHS.
I have experience attending general meetings and organizing events for the community because I was a member of my high school’s student council. I also have experience advocating for clubs in larger meetings, as I was the club leader for the environmental club in my high school. At large student council meetings, I had to advocate for activities and time slots where my club could get the opportunities they deserved and wanted, such as a garbage clean up and a plant fundraiser. Even though this position will not be involved in the environment, I will advocate for our faculty to get what we want and deserve. I am also a swimming instructor, and while that might not seem to have any relevance in this role, I am used to speaking to others to get my ideas communicated! Trust me, talking over a bunch of 5-year-olds to get your voice heard is not easy, and it has strengthened my communication skills! I will clearly communicate our wants and needs to the members of the council to get our voices heard and our ideas made into reality.

Candidate Information:
I’m interested in running for IHP Student Representative because I want to make sure our voices as Health Sciences students are heard when decisions are being made. As a third-year student, I’ve experienced both the opportunities and challenges within our program, and I feel I can bring that perspective forward to advocate for meaningful improvements. I also really value building connections between students and faculty, and I see this role as a chance to strengthen that communication while helping create a more supportive learning environment for everyone.
As an international student in a program that’s mostly resident and citizen dominated , I’ve noticed that our voices and experiences aren’t always represented. I’d like to bring that perspective forward and advocate for the challenges that students like me face. I’ve had the chance to do this in different ways already. Through volunteering with the International Centre as a Health Sciences ambassador, where I connected with new international students interested in the program, and as an Orientation Team Leader with Student Affairs and Communications, where I guided first-years, helped plan events, and supported volunteers through training and interviews. These experiences have taught me how to listen, communicate, and create space for others, which are skills I hope to continue building in this position

Year: 2
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
I have always enjoyed interacting with peers and hearing about their unique backgrounds and cultures. Naturally, this passion led me to become actively involved in clubs, such as IHPSA (IHP Students' Association) and UMULH (University of Manitoba Undergraduate Leaders in Healthcare). In fact, I am part of the marketing and social committee for IHPSA and am an executive member for UMULH. This was also evident in my high school years, as my drive to connect with others allowed me to co-lead the Debate and Diversity Alliance club. In particular, I held monthly surveys where the members provided feedback, and I always followed up with the teachers through various meetings and discussions. This brought me a sense of achievement and joy, knowing I could appropriately accommodate every concern for further improvements. Consequently, the position of IHP student representative stood out to me as that would mean I could continue doing the exact thing that I loved doing! Ultimately, I took an interest in the IHP student representative as I can further my contributions to my valued program while establishing rapport and actively solving problems for the utmost growth of this program.
My experience in student leadership roles and community work allows me to effectively represent IHP students. To start, I am a dedicated member of IHPSA and UMULH (University of Manitoba Undergraduate Leaders in Healthcare). Specifically, I am an IHP Liaison for UMULH, where I serve as the main communicator between IHPSA and UMULH, hosting events in collaboration. This experience will be an asset, especially as I am already serving as an IHP student representative. Next, I co-led the Debate and Diversity Alliance club, where I facilitated thought-provoking weekly meetings. Lastly, I have experience in tutoring and mentoring individuals in both academic fields and working with vulnerable people. My goal as a representative is to ensure every student receives the benefits and support they rightfully deserve and to drive the program in the direction that will better suit their needs. Overall, I absolutely adore this program and its tight-knit community, and I am eager to contribute my creativity, organization, and communication skills to this position.

Candidate Information:
Through getting involved with IHPSA, our community of health sciences/studies students has become something near and dear to my heart. I really appreciate the tremendous work and dedication that our council has put into providing us with opportunities and events that bring our community together. As an IHP student representative, it can allow me to give back to our community and be a strong connection between the IHP and the RFHS. As a collective, us students can bring immense change and improvements in our community, and this role will allow me to voice everyone’s ideas and concerns to the RFHS. This role to me is not about being a representative for myself, but rather a way to be the bridge to express each and every student’s wishes and concerns to the higher ups who are responsible for the outcomes we recieve. As an IHP Student Representative, I hope to connect to and understand how the RFHS coordinates to continue for positive change to our program. I will ensure to continue strengthening our community, working towards creating opportunities as well as relaying important resources and information to every student in our program!
I am a dedicated and passionate person who values community to ensure the best outcomes through effective communication and leadership. Ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to succeed in their education, whether it be academically or through campus involvement, has always been a goal that I strive to achieve. Currently, I am the Academic Programming Director for the University of Manitoba’s Undergraduate Leaders in Healthcare (UMULH). Through this role, I assist in event planning, creating a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn more from various healthcare professionals and provide them with resources to achieve their future goals. I also have experience as a Supplemental Instructor Leader for CHEM 1100, demonstrating strong communication skills through assisting students with their education through their time in first-year chemistry. I have also taken many volunteering roles, such as helping out at Winnipeg Harvest, the Boys and Girls Club by creating STEM activities for youth individuals, and initiating a math-peer tutoring program in my high school. These roles have made me someone who works towards building success as a collective, and through this position, I hope to continue advocating for everyone to be supported in our community as an IHP representative :3

Candidate Information:
Being a new student in the Interdisciplinary Health Program, I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to run for Student Representative on the RFHS Council. My interest is driven by a deep sense of enthusiasm for this program and a commitment to actively contribute to our community.
Having just joined, I believe I bring a fresh perspective and a strong desire to help create a welcoming and supportive environment for all IHP students. I am passionate about ensuring our program's unique voice and needs are heard at the faculty level. I see this role as a vital link between the IHP student body and the wider RFHS community.
This position is not just a title to me; it's a chance to be a dedicated advocate for my peers. I want to help strengthen our connections within the faculty, foster collaboration, and ensure our program thrives. I am ready to put in the hard work to represent our interests and make a positive impact.
My past experiences have already taught me the core principles of this role. As a hospital volunteer, I learned to be deeply attentive to the needs of others, which is the essential first step in effective advocacy. My time in high school, where I successfully advocated for peers on issues like reducing the cost of food, gave me hands-on experience in representing a community and working to achieve a tangible goal.
In this position, I hope to build on these skills and expand them to the university level. Specifically, I want to develop my ability to effectively communicate the diverse needs of IHP students to the broader Rady Faculty Council. I also aim to strengthen my skills in strategic collaboration, learning to work with other student representatives and faculty members to find collective solutions for our program. Ultimately, I want to grow as a proactive leader and help create a stronger, more connected student body within the RFHS.

Year: 1
Program: Health Sciences
Candidate Information:
I would love to represent IHP students on the RFHS Council because I’ve always been passionate about health and believe it should be based on trust, equity, and community. As a first-year student, I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective and an energetic voice to the table! I’ve been involved with the RFHS since high school (yes, I was that person who went to Discovery Day every year), and now I want to take my turn to contribute and have a say in what can be done going forward.
I’ve been told that my voice projects and carries, and I plan to use it to carry IHP student’s voices into every conversation that matters. I especially want to represent those who are still figuring out exactly which health path they want to pursue. I’m open to exploring a variety of roles myself and want to ensure everyone in that in-between space feels seen and supported.
I don’t want to join just to sit on the council, I want to use this opportunity to connect and meet with the IHP students, hear their thoughts and concerns (and make friends), and make sure I’m representing in the most authentic way possible!
I’ve led blood drives, volunteered in health-related initiatives, and hosted mental health workshops for students which are experiences that have deepened my passion for health and advocacy, and that I can continue to build on in this role. I’ve also represented my school and division at youth councils regionally, nationally, and internationally, which taught me how to lead and represent with courage and authenticity. In the Canadian French Ethics Cup, I participated in ethical debates on topics such as the use of Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) and the privatization of hospitals. Through this, I developed skills in respectful, open-minded dialogue which can be essential during council discussions where multiple perspectives need to be explored and respected.
But one of the most important qualifications I believe I bring is that I’m a first-year student! I see this as an asset as I’m a blank canvas with a growth mindset. I’m open to learning, willing to admit when I don’t know something, and ready to build on the ideas and perspectives shared by students in the IHP program. I hope to grow as a communicator and become a leader who truly listens to and represents the diverse voices of IHP students!

Candidate Information:
As a new member of the IHP, I am eager to serve as a student representative on the RFHS Council because I believe in amplifying student voices and strengthening collaboration across programs. Both undergraduate and graduate students deserve equitable access to opportunities, yet we continue to see how younger students are often overlooked, from struggling to secure research positions typically reserved for graduate students or facing reduced options when applying to medical school with “only” a bachelor’s degree. I want to advocate for students at all stages, ensuring their goals are taken seriously and their perspectives valued. My experience working with professors, graduate students, and primary investigators across Manitoba has prepared me to be an effective liaison who can build meaningful connections and advocate effectively within academic spaces in order to represent diverse needs. If elected, I would be committed to serving as a strong liaison between IHP students and the broader RFHS community, creating an environment where every student feels heard, supported, and empowered to pursue their goals.
Over the past several years, I have developed leadership skills and experiences that prepare me well for this role. I have spent over 200 hours volunteering across hospital sectors, helped lead my school’s STEM club and empowered “STEMinists” to pursue their passions despite barriers, contributed to brain cancer research at the Health Sciences Centre, and served as a leader for Project Pulse, a national non-profit connecting students with resources to pursue healthcare careers. These opportunities taught me how to support peers by making information and experiences more accessible in such a competitive field. However, potentially the most strong asset I bring to the table is my strong advocacy skills. As Co-Captain of my school’s debate team, I learned that true leadership is about being a microphone for the voices of others. I hope to apply this mindset as IHP’s representative on RFHS Council, ensuring undergraduate perspectives are valued and respected. By building bridges and opening doors for my peers, I aim to make the IHP student experience more inclusive, collaborative, and empowering.

I want to run for IHP Student Representative on the RFHS Council because I genuinely care about making sure student voices are heard. Being part of the Interdisciplinary Health Program has given me the chance to meet people from many different backgrounds, and I’ve seen how important it is to feel supported and represented. I’m not running just to hold a position, but to listen, share ideas, and bring forward concerns that matter to us as students. I believe in creating a space where everyone feels included, where challenges are taken seriously, and where we celebrate our successes together. I know how much it means when someone takes the time to listen, and I’d like to be that person on council. This role is an opportunity to give back, strengthen connections within our program, and help make our student experience better for all of us.
In this role, I hope to grow as a leader by learning how to advocate more effectively and by building stronger connections between students and faculty. Most of all, I want to make sure our concerns and ideas are heard and acted on. I bring strong communication and teamwork skills from my time in the Interdisciplinary Health Program and from working with peers on group projects and activities. I enjoy listening to others and making sure different voices are included
